Many projects are now under construction as the summer season approaches.  It is always exciting to see the calculations and designs come to life.  Especially when they appear to defy nature, as seen in this amazing cantilever:

Salt Lake County Public Health Center

slcphc This is our most recent structural engineering design project for the county of Salt Lake, Utah.  This public health center is a 2-story 47000 sq. ft. steel, concrete, and masonry building containing offices and clinics of the Salt Lake Valley Health Department.  The upper floor is composite steel and concrete, and the lateral forces are resisted by both steel moment frames and masonry shear walls. There is a separate 2800 sq. ft. maintenance and utility building....
